OCT8VE is a contemporary christian vocal ensemble dedicated to redefining the possibilities of a cappella music through artistic excellence, innovation, and storytelling. Founded by composer, conductor, and arranger Jalen Scott during his time at Oakwood University, the ensemble was created to showcase the power of the human voice while bridging multiple genres, cultures, and generations.
Known for its rich harmonies, dynamic vocal textures, and emotionally compelling performances, OCT8VE draws inspiration from gospel, jazz, and classical vocal traditions. The ensemble's repertoire features original compositions and inventive arrangements that celebrate both musical craftsmanship and pillars of the Christian music community, creating an opportunity for audiences to engage with them.
Since its inception, OCT8VE has been invited as guest artists to churches, community events and special presentations across the nation. The ensemble's debut recording, GR8FUL, reflects its mission of gratitude and hope, and has gained attention on gospel radio stations and from mainstream artists looking for partnerships.
As they continue to evolve, OCT8VE’s mission remains clear: to push the boundaries of close-harmony vocal music, fusing genres in unexpected ways, and establish themselves as one of the only Black, mixed-vocal, close-harmony ensembles actively performing today.
