Jalen M. Scott

Jalen Scott is a Chicagoland-based composer-arranger, arts manager, and music director, known for his creative versatility and deep commitment to equity in the arts. A self-taught pianist and organist from an early age, Scott is passionate about utilizing artistry to tell a story and increasing the visibility of underrepresented communities through music.

He currently serves as Manager of the Steans Institute at the Ravinia Festival, where he oversees operations for fellows, faculty, and guest artists, manages alumni relations, liaises between the institute and festival boards, and coordinates touring efforts. His work places him at the intersection of administration and artistry, supporting (this generation and) the next generation of world class musicians and musical leaders that pass through Ravinia.

Jalen holds a Bachelor's degree in Music Composition from Oakwood University, where he was a baritone and student conductor of the world-renowned Aeolians. During his time there, he founded OCT8VE, a mixed-vocal a cappella ensemble that has since released its debut album, GR8FUL, and continues to tour.

He earned his Master’s degree in Performing Arts Administration from Roosevelt University and serves in leadership for the Jason Max Ferdinand Singers, a professional BIPOC ensemble. Jalen and the ensemble's performance credits include collaborations with Jacob Collier, Coldplay, VOCES8, and appearances at YouTube Brandcast, Saturday Night Live, the American Choral Directors Association, and the BBC Proms.

Equally devoted to sacred music, Jalen serves as Music Director at DuPage AME Church in the western suburbs of Chicago. He is a frequent guest director, musician, and speaker for workshops and special worship services, maintaining a strong presence in both sacred and secular musical spaces.

Jalen is an active member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, reflecting his dedication to leadership, community service, and cultural advancement.
